Superb complete set of 200 1962 Salada Baseball Coins, ideally housed in the original “Salada Foods” presentation box as issued. The box was specifically designed to hold each coin within its respective team designation. When the coins are neatly put in their designated team slots it resembles a “poker chip” set. This the first example of this boxed set we have ever offered! The set is highlighted by several Hall of Famers and stars including Banks, Clemente, Koufax, Mantle, Maris, Mays, Snider, and Yastrzemski. The coins appear to be undisturbed and have very little wear, grading Nr/Mt overall. The box is clean with light handling wear. Salada coins are one of the more interesting choices of premiums ever devised to help generate sales of a product. We understand the issuing of these coins with desserts, but when you get right down to it, it's just hard to imagine what Salada was thinking when they also issued these with tea. Even in the early 1960s, few youngsters were drinking tea, and even those who did have an occasional cup could not possibly be expected to drink enough to actually collect this set, issued one coin per box. But this is part of the charm of the set; and the unique designs, great players, and unmistakable early 1960s flavor of the set make this issue a classic of the era. An outstanding and rarely offered complete set of these popular coins housed in the original “Salada Foods” presentation box as issued. Total: 200 coins housed in original box. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
