Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of only four examples graded at this level with just one higher. Outstanding high-grade example of Babe Ruth (Type 3) from the unusual 1932 Sanella Margarine series. Issued in Germany, this beautiful full-color issue of 112 different subjects measures 2-3/4 x 4-1/8 inches and also includes all types of athletes (boxing, football, tennis, wrestling, track, etc.). The text on the reverse is printed in German. The card features a stunning full-color image of Ruth hitting a homer. There are three different back printing variations of the set. The offered example is the “Type 3” variation, which has the Sanella advertisement located toward the bottom border and also the card number ("83") has been added. This striking example is extremely well centered, with four strong corners, and flawless colors. The reverse is clean. For the Ruth collector not interested in paying a king's ransom for Ruth cards from the popular 1933 Goudey series, but still wants original 1930-era vintage cards of Babe Ruth, the 1932 Sanella Margerine series presents an exceptional opportunity and represents an extraordinary value. A find of these cards years ago has kept the price down, but like any find of vintage cards, they will eventually not be as readily available. (American dealers found they were available from card dealers overseas and bought them all to sell to American collectors.) When these cards were first available in America, they sold for a small fortune before collectors realized there was a small quantity. Extremely attractive and high-grade example of the "Bambino" from one of the most unusual sets of the era. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
