Tremendous very modestly graded example of 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's #311 Topps rookie card is the key to the 1952 Topps set, one of the most famous of all cards, and the single most popular and valuable postwar baseball card. The offered example, graded PR 1 by PSA (submitted by REA), presents extremely well, with a flawless image, bold colors, strong corners, and centering to the top. At first glance, it would appear to be Vg-Ex to Ex overall, which is what we believed when we received the first picture via e-mail. Upon receipt, we discovered that the card at one time had a staple perfectly placed in the top part of the black frame, which has since been removed, but the remaining holes relegate the card to the lowest part of the professional grading scale. In our estimation, this card has to be among the best-looking "low grade" 1952 Mantles in existence! The most iconic cards such as the 1952 Topps #311 Mantle always have tremendous interest to collectors in all grades. In fact, while lower-grade examples are naturally more affordable, it is precisely for this reason that lower-grade examples of important cards often have even more collectors interested in them! This card will undoubtedly be of enormous appeal to collectors looking to acquire an exceptionally attractive, yet comparatively affordable, example of the most popular and desirable postwar card ever produced. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
