As most card collectors are aware, 1950s Red Man tobacco cards are often found without their original tabs along the base because those tabs could be redeemed for prizes. A total of fifty Red Man tabs earned a young child his or her choice of a new baseball cap bearing the logo of his favorite major league team. Offered here is a collection of eight different Major League caps that were originally issued as redemption prizes by Red Man Tobacco between the years 1952 and 1955. Each wool cap is stamped "Red Man Base Cap" along the interior faux-leather band. Ideally, none of these caps displays any wear and all appear just as they did when initially offered during the 1950s. All of the caps are flattened, as issued (the caps were shipped in thin envelopes) and the interior bands display varying degrees of cracking and chipping (naturally related to age); otherwise, all of them remain in Near Mint condition. The teams and respective sizes in this collection are as follows: St. Louis Cardinals (medium), New York Yankees (medium), Chicago White Sox (small), New York Giants (medium), Boston Red Sox (medium), Washington Senators (medium), Cincinnati Reds (medium), and Brooklyn Dodgers (large). This is an outstanding offering of these scarce caps and one that would be the perfect compliment to any advanced collection of Red Man Tobacco cards. Total: 8 caps. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
