Presented is an exceptional near-complete set of sixty-three different cards (out of seventy-two in a complete set) from the classic 1952 Berk Ross issue. Each card is professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. The 1952 Berk Ross cards are similar in design to the 1951 Berk Ross card set, though slightly different in dimensions (they are larger and vertical in format) and the set was issued as individual cards instead of the perforated two-card panel design from the previous year. Assembling a complete set in ultra high grade is extremely difficult. This near-complete set consists of four MINT 9s, thirty-three NM-MT 8s, eighteen NM 7s, and eight EX-MT 6s. This assembly is currently ranked eighth on the PSA Set Registry with an impressive 7.54 overall GPA. Missing only the following nine cards for completion (all of which are offered individually in this auction): Campanella, J. DiMaggio, Hodges, Mantle, Mays, Musial, J. Robinson, Snider, and Williams. PSA Grading Composite: MINT 9 (4 cards):
Busby, Ennis, Roe, and Stanky. NM-MT 8 (33 cards):
Ashburn, Bauer, Berra, Blackwell (Photo Nelson Fox), Carrasquel, Collins, Dark, Doerr, Elliott, Fain, Feller, Garver, Jansen, Kell, Lopat, Maglie, Martin RC, McDougald RC, Mize, Mueller, Newcombe, Parnell, Raschi, Reese, Reynolds, Rigney, Rizzuto/bunting, Roberts, Schoendienst, Spencer, H. Thompson, Woodling, and Zernial. NM 7 (18 cards):
Coleman, D. DiMaggio, Doby, Fox (Photo Ewell Blackwell), Hartung, Hearn, Kennedy, Kiner, Koslo, Kuzava, Lemon, Morgan, Noble, Ostrowski, Rizzuto/swinging, Wertz, Westlake, and Westrum. EX-MT 6 (8 cards):
Brown, Irvin, Jones, Lockman, Minoso RC, E. Robinson, Sain, and Thomson. Eleven of the cards are highest-graded examples, including the Brown and Lockman EX-MT 6 examples, which have proved elusive for high-grade set collectors. This is a stunning near-complete set of this issue! The 1952 Berk Ross set is among the most interesting and overlooked sets of the era. It is also far rarer than collectors realize. (Unlike the 1951 set, there were never any 1952 sets available from Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards.) The SMR value in the assigned grades is $6,808. Total: 63 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
