Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Extremely high-grade example of this very popular card featuring the "Splendid Splinter" in his familiar swing-thru pose. The "Lionel Carter Collection" designation on this card is of special note as it refers to the fact that this card was part of the collection of Lionel Carter, one of organized card collecting's most legendary pioneers. Because of the year of issue of this card, we know that Lionel Carter personally purchased this card directly from an unopened pack in 1951 (as opposed to his earlier cards which he obtained through purchase or trade), and made sure it was protected from all elements and perfectly stored. More than sixty years later, it looks exactly as it did when pulled from that pack by Lionel Carter. Crisp and clean and very well centered, with flawless bright colors, perfect registration, and four sharp corners. As of this writing only five 1951 Bowmans of Williams (out of a total of 463 graded) have received a higher grade from SGC. One of the "big three" cards from the 1951 Bowman issue. Classic card from this extremely popular 1950s issue. The equivalent SMR value is $1,850. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
