Outstanding collection of sixteen different cards (plus four duplicates) from the classic 1948-1949 Leaf Gum series. The first color baseball cards of the post-World War II era were produced by Chicago's Leaf Gum Company in 1948. Forty-nine cards in the set are considered "standard," and the additional "short print" series of forty-nine cards in the set are so rare that "Rare Leafs" has long been a formal card-collecting hobby term. Leafs are without question one of the toughest postwar sets to complete because of all the rare cards. Five cards are graded by SGC. This collection consists of the following: #14 Johnson (Ex), 28 Hegan (Ex+), 29 Valo (Ex+), two 38 Kluszewski RC (EX 60 and Ex), 39 Blackwell (Ex), two 49 Ennis (NM 84 and Vg-Ex+), 50 Wakefield (Ex), two 56 Jensen (NM 84 and Ex-Mt), two 65 Elliot (NM 84 and Ex-Mt), 72 Edwards (Ex), 91 Kiner RC (HOF, EX/NM+ 82), 102 Hermanski (Ex), 106 Boudreau (HOF, Ex), 125 Pafko (Vg-Ex), 128 Rosar (Vg-Ex+), and 139 Hopp (Gd+). This is a small but desirable collection of cards, highlighted by two Hall of Famers, from this very popular 1940s gum-card issue. Total: 20 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
