Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at any level by SGC! Exceptional and extremely rare example of #100 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig from the unusual Sociedade Industrial set. Produced in 1928 by a tobacco company for issue in Angola, these cards measure approximately 1.75 x 2.5 inches and feature black-and-white images on semi-glossy stock with advertising and a brief description of the depicted scene on the reverse. Astute collectors will notice the set's resemblance to the Tabacalera la Morena series of approximately the same time. On the offered card, Ruth and Gehrig are each posed leaning on bats in the prime of their career. The two players joined forces for the "Bustin' Babes and Larrupin' Lous" barnstorming tours of 1927 and 1928, and the Yankees captured their second consecutive World Championship in 1928 by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, thereby cementing their reputation as one of baseball's greatest dynasties. Crisp and clean, the offered example boasts a flawless image of the two stars and a perfect surface, free of any creasing or wrinkling that so often plagues cards from this issue. The corners are strong and show only light touches of wear at the tips. Clean and boldly printed reverse. This is one of only two examples of #100 ever graded at any level by PSA and SGC combined (PSA has graded a single example). An incredible example of this extremely rare foreign card featuring two of the greatest players ever to play the game and a card that would be a worthy addition to even the most advanced Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
