Modestly graded example of one of Ruth's truly great early 1920s cards. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate Type 2 series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. This is the key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. The front of the card displays as Vg-Ex, with strong centering, light corner wear, and a small surface blemish near the bottom border. The reverse, which features advertising for "Neilson's Big League Bars," is boldly printed, with a moderate area of paper loss, which accounts for its assigned grade of POOR 10 by SGC. It is interesting to note that this card was produced utilizing the same design and image as the American Caramel E120 series. Few cards of Ruth date from the early 1920s. This is a relatively affordable Babe Ruth card, dating from the early 1920s (an era in which few cards sets of any quality were issued). Reserve $500. Estimate 1,000+.
