Original unopened pack of Piedmont Cigarettes housing twelve cigarettes. Piedmont Cigarettes is most closely associated with the legendary T206 White Border set, and while this pack was originally purchased by our consignor as a pack that could potentially house an original T206 card, we know based on several facts that this pack almost certainly dates to many years after the 1909-1911 period in which the set was issued. Collectors believe that T206s were inserted into packs housing ten cigarettes and that packs housing twelve cigarettes were first produced around 1917-1918. The fact that this pack is a "Liggett & Myers" pack also supports that the pack was produced after 1911. (1911 was the year of the breakup of the American Tobacco Company into several smaller companies, including Liggett & Myers.) While this pack is not a T206-era pack, it is still an incredible unopened pack in virtually perfect condition that would be an affordable companion piece to any T206 set or collection. For reference, a circa 1911 pack that conformed to all the expectations of a pack designed to house T206s sold for $8,888 at lot #1786 in REA's Spring 2014 auction. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
