Presented is a very scarce example of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, one of the key cards from the extremely unique "Big Head" Strip-Card set. Because these cards were hand-cut from strips, they tend to have irregular cuts. This example was cut smaller than most, with a border remaining only on the bottom of the card, resulting in the Authentic designation by SGC. The late teens and very early 1920s presented few baseball-card sets for youngsters to collect, and strip-cards were both the most prominent and most affordable cards of the era. These small, uniquely designed cards are blank-backed and measure 1-3/8 x 2-1/2 inches. Cobb is featured in full uniform in a running pose. The offered card displays vibrant colors, a clear image, an unmarked blank reverse, creasing, and a missing lower left corner. This is a very scarce example of Ty Cobb from one of the most unique of all vintage card issues. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
