Superb example of Ty Cobb from the B18 Blankets set. These 5.25-inch squares of “flannel baseball cards” were issued in 1914, with several popular brands of tobacco. They are referred to as “blankets” because they were intended to be sewn together to create bed covers, pillowcases, etc. Cobb is, undoubtedly, one of the keys to the set. This crisp example of Ty Cobb is well centered with a boldly colored and entirely clean front and back. Often overlooked by collectors, B18s are beginning to be recognized both for their scarcity, and for the exceptional value they represent compared to many other 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
