Graded VG+ 45 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher. Presented is an outstanding sample card from the 1911 John Wanamaker World Series Souvenir Postcard series featuring Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker. This extremely rare postcard, issued as a promotional piece by the largest and most prominent department store in Philadelphia, commemorates the Philadelphia Athletics’ participation in the 1911 World Series against the New York Giants. This is an extraordinary and exceptional advertising postcard rarity that we do not recall ever offering. The offered card is crisp and clean, with light traces of wear to each of the four corners, and a faint wrinkle that runs from the middle of the top edge to Baker's cap. Clean reverse that bears no writing and has not been used postally. The reverse features a printed caption: "Home-Run" Baker of the Champion Athletics - Souvenir of the World's Series, 1911 and of the John Wanamaker Photographic Supply Store." This is a very attractive and rare postcard that would make an outstanding addition to any postcard, Hall of Famer, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
