Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC (submitted by REA). Rare and striking example of #159 Ty Cobb from the 1913-1915 "Pinkerton" Postcard series. This series is closely related to the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet issue and features the very same images, including caption designs (in 3.5 x 5.5-inch postcard size), as appear on the T5 cabinets, though the actual issuer of the set is unknown. Multiple styles are known to exist for these postcards, including scorecard-back examples, which allowed the holder to fill in a lineup and score a game on the reverse of a player postcard. The offered example is a scorecard back variety, which is the most difficult of the three varieties to obtain. Featuring a black-and-white photo of the Hall of Famer making a fully extended leaping catch, this card is bright and crisp, with no creases or wrinkles and even wear on the corners. The scorecard reverse is unscored and has some minor soiling. An ideal sample card featuring one of the game's most legendary stars, from this rare 1910-era issue. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
