Graded EX+ 70 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Rare and striking example of #251 Christy Mathewson from the 1913-1915 "Pinkerton" Postcard series. This series is closely related to the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet issue and features the very same images, including caption designs (in 3.5 x 5.5-inch postcard size), as appear on the T5 cabinets, though the actual issuer of the set is unknown. Multiple styles are known to exist for these postcards, including scorecard-back examples, which allowed the holder to fill in a lineup and score a game on the reverse of a player postcard. The offered example is a blank-back variety. Featuring a sepia photo of the Hall of Fame pitcher in a wind-up pose, this card is crisp and clean, with no creases or wrinkles and four strong corners. The blank reverse is entirely clean. An ideal sample featuring key Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson from this rare 1910-era issue. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+.
