Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level with none higher! Extremely attractive T213 (Type 1) Coupon Cigarette card of Philadelphia Athletics Hall of Famer Chief Bender (trees in background) from this elusive and extremely rare tobacco set. T213 Coupon Cigarettes are among the most unusual, rarest, and overlooked of all tobacco-card issues. Very similar in design and borrowing the same images as the T206 set, the T213 (Type 1) set was issued exclusively in the Louisiana region. A strong case can be made that T213 (Type 1) cards are a rare type of T206. At a glance, T213-1s look exactly like T206s, but when held in hand, it is immediately apparent that they are printed on extremely thin stock, in addition to not having gloss applied to the surface as do T206s. T213-1s also have a unique advertising design on their reverses. Approximately seventy different T213-1s are known. This magnificent example has an appearance that is even stronger than its assigned grade, but is kept from a higher grade due to several faint creases. This is a gorgeous T213 (Type 1) example. It is bright and clean, with vibrant colors. The corners are square with only the lightest hint of wear. The back is clean with very bold print. T213 (Type 1) Coupons are far rarer than their T206 counterparts. This is an exceptional example of one of Bender's rarest and most interesting tobacco cards, which would be a worthy addition to any Hall of Fame, sample, or rare vintage baseball-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
