Exceptionally attractive 40-card complete subset of 1910 T212 Obaks bearing the scarce "150 Subjects" text on the reverse, entirely graded and encapsulated by SGC. Obaks are among the most popular of all early card issues featuring players from the Pacific Coast League. While catalogued simply as T212, Obaks were actually issued over a period of three years, from 1909 to 1911, and are really three sets. The cards in the 1910 set are easily distinguished by the blue printing on their backs in a less ornate font than the 1909 cards. The 1910 Obak set (which has 175 cards) features players from the six PCL teams as well as players from the four-team Northwestern League. The 1910 Obak set exists in two varieties: one advertising "150 Subjects" on the reverse and one advertising "175 Subjects on the reverse. Forty of the 175 cards in the set exist in both varities. Offered here is a complete set of all forty cards, which happen to feature only PCL players. Cards bearing the "150 Subjects" text are significantly scarcer than "175 Subjects," and the compilation of such an attractive complete set as offered here is extremely impressive. SGC Grading Composite: EX+ 70 (1 card): Brackenbridge. VG/EX 50 (6 cards): Berry, Cameron, Danzig, Howard, H. Smith, and J. Smith. VG 40 (15 cards): R. Brashear, Criger, Dillon, Fisher (Vernon), Griffin, Hogan (Vernon), La Longe, Manush, Melchior, Moser, Murphy, Ort, Rapps, Swander, and Tonnesen. GOOD+ 35 (1 card): Stewart. GOOD 30 (8 cards): Armbuster, McArdle, McCredie, Mundorf, Perry, Steen, Whalen, and Willett. FAIR 20 (9 cards): Briggs, Coy, Henley, Hiester, Krapp, Mohler, Williams, Willis, and Wolverton. T212 Obak cards are highly prized by both minor-league collectors and tobacco-card collectors. All cards present with vibrant color and flawless registration. Seventeen cards have a factory number stamped on the back (common to the issue and not penalized by grading companies). This is a superb complete set of this very scarce text variety from the popular T212 Obak series. Total: 40 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
