Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Exceptionally high grade T208 Fireside Tobacco card of pitcher Jimmy Dygert of the Philadelphia Athletics. This is a very strong sample card from this extremely rare tobacco issue, with an ideal boldly printed Fireside advertising reverse. The offered example has a flawless image set against a striking blue background, light wear to the corners, no creases, and is perfectly centered with a very slight natural diamond cut. This exceptional high-grade example appears Excellent but has been downgraded by SGC due to a small chip of paper loss along the bottom edge of the reverse. To date, SGC has graded just forty-three cards from this rare set, with only four cards (of any subject) grading VG/EX (including this one) and only a single card (of any subject) grading higher (EX/NM 80). This card originally appeared in REA's 2011 auction (realizing $4,700) as part of an exciting original-owner prewar-card collection highlighted by four T208s. It has been consigned directly by the buyer at that sale. This is a very high-quality example from the legendary and elusive T208 series. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
