Graded VG 3 by PSA (submitted by REA). Superb midgrade example of what is universally recognized as one of Cobb's most iconic cards! This card was part of a totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction) that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The Red Background pose has long been considered one of the great classics of the T206 set and of all vintage cards. The offered example has a particularly striking portrait and brilliant colors, with a strong red background. Extremely crisp and clean, both front and back, with even wear at the corners (more in the upper left), and centered slightly to the left. Sweet Caporal advertising on reverse. The T206 Cobb Red Background portrait is one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era, and this example would be a worthy addition to any T206, Hall of Famer, or Ty Cobb card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
