Collection of forty-six cards from the T206 White Border set, highlighted by twelve Hall of Famers, including Walter Johnson, Cy Young, and Ty Cobb. In addition to having a remarkably high percentage of Hall of Famers, this is a particularly interesting group in terms of condition as all the cards have been affixed to parts of a vintage cardboard advertisement. The cardboard has been reinforced with tape in a couple of areas. The fronts of the cards vary in grade, with thirteen cards presenting as Gd to Vg and the rest lesser. Presumably, the cardboard backing could be carefully removed (and with luck could possibly yield rare advertising backs that would render the technical grades of those cards inconsequential). Keys: Baker, Bender/trees in background, Chase/portrait, Cobb/red portrait, Eddie Collins, Crawford/with bat, Gandil (Black Sox), Johnson/hands at chest, Johnson/portrait, Joss/pitching, Lajoie/with bat, Waddell/throwing, and two Cy Young/glove shows. This lot is ideal for the collector who wants real, original T206 tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. We very much enjoy offering low-grade groups like these when we have the opportunity because they make the collecting of the most classic baseball-card issues possible and more accessible to a wider audience. The cards in this lot represent a remarkable opportunity to acquire a substantial, yet relatively affordable, collection of T206 White Border cards with numerous highlights. Total: 46 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
