Sample card from one of the rarest of all "E" card sets, catalogued E222, issued in 1910 by the A. W. H. Caramel Company, featuring players from the Virginia League. The fronts of these cards, which measure 1.5 x 2.75 inches, each have a player portrait that is tinted red, black, brown, or blue and white. Presented is a green-and-white sample card of Bock Hooker from the 1910 Lynchburg Shoemakers of the Virginia League. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC, this example is centered to the top, with a crisp image and light touches of wear to the corners. Light creasing is present in the lower right corner area. The back is boldly printed and entirely clean with only a few small spots of surface wear along the left edge. This card may have long ago been carefully hand-cut from a sheet. We have only offered seven E222 examples in the last fifteen years. This is an extremely attractive, ideal sample card from one of the rarest of all 1910-era card sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
