Charles Finley was one of the most flamboyant owners in Major League history, so it is not surprising that he would often present his newest players with a custom-made Oakland A's cowboy hat. The offered hat, which was specially crafted for star pitcher Vida Blue, is as garish as his team's multicolored uniforms during the early 1970s. Made of green suede, with yellow trim, it features the A's team logo embroidered in white on the front. The manufacturer's name, Bandera, is stamped in gold on the interior leather band, as is "Made Especially For/Vida Blue." The interior top lining of the hat is fashioned in satin. We have seen a news photo of manager Chuck Tanner wearing a near-identical A's cowboy hat when he was formally introduced as the A's new manager in 1975, so it is probable that most players on the club received such a hat on the occasion of their joining the club. The hat has a tiny pinhole above the logo; otherwise it displays little-to-no wear and remains in Near Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
