In the field of baseball bobblehead dolls, none are rarer than a set of seven issued in the 1960s by Kriess & Co., a Los Angeles manufacturer of toys, that were marketed mainly to gift shops. Known today as "Weirdo" bobbleheads because of their outrageous facial features, these seven bobbleheads were dressed in Dodgers uniforms and came with either a tag around their neck or label upon the base bearing a humorous phrase relating specifically to that particular doll. (A set of identical dolls dressed in Giants uniforms, which are even rarer than the Dodger dolls, were also produced at the time, as were "blackface" variations for two of the dolls.) Offered here is the doll commonly referred to as "The Sweeper." The figure holds a broom and bucket, with the uniform number on the reverse reading "1/16." This particular example is complete with its original base decal that reads "I'm Ready For That Clean Up Spot, Boss!!" The offered piece (7.5 inches tall) displays a tiny chip to the brim of the cap and another on the button of the cap. A few hairline cracks are also evident on the back of the head. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
