Two scarce and desirable souvenirs commemorating the Yankees' fifth consecutive World Championship, in 1953. 1)
The first is a circular silver tray that was presented to Yankees players and members of the front office as a special keepsake of the unprecedented accomplishment. The interior of the tray is designed in the shape of a baseball and features the engraved facsimile signatures of thirty-seven team members including Mantle, Berra, Stengel, Dickey, Mize, owner Dan Topping, and general manager George Weiss. The year, "1953," and the Yankees team logo are engraved in the center. The tray (13 inches in diameter) displays moderate tarnishing (it can probably be easily cleaned), and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. 2)
New York Yankees photo display issued as a promotional piece by Ballantine. The piece features a large color team photo of the club with each player identified in print along the base. The text below the photo reads "New York Yankees/First team to win 5 consecutive World Series Championships 1949, '50, '51, '52, '53/Sponsored on Radio And Television By/Ballantine Ale & Beer." A 1954 copyright date appears in the lower left corner. The piece (17 x 15 inches) has a laminated front and is mounted on heavy board. There is a minor corner chip in the lower right, as well as a tiny chip along the top border. The easel attachment on the reverse has broken off. Vg-Ex overall. Total: 2 items (tray and advertising display). Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
