Original news photo capturing Joe DiMaggio and George Selkirk of the New York Yankees posing together with Joe Moore and Travis Jackson of the New York Giants prior to the first game of the 1936 World Series. The photographer created a unique image by having the players pose shoulder to shoulder and shooting them from behind, so that one can see their uniform numbers make the larger number "1936." (Many people are not aware that Joe DiMaggio wore number "9" during his rookie season. He began wearing his now-famous number "5" the following year.) An International News Photo credit stamp appears on the reverse and it is accompanied by its original printed news caption, which is dated "9-30-36." The photo (8 x 6 inches) displays a tiny corner chip in the upper right and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Matted and framed (with double-sided glass so that the reverse is visible) to total dimensions of 13.75 x 12 inches). Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
