Presented here, based solely upon the vintage black fountain pen notations printed upon it, is baseball that was used during the 1924 World Series, held at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. The notations across the sweet spot read "First Game Series at/Washington D. C./vs. New York. On the west panel is written "Bluege/3rd B./Wash." The date, "10-5-24" appears on the east panel. The fourth and final notation, which is simply the initials "L. F. G. S," rests upon the south panel. (The initials most likely represent the original owner's seat location: Left Field Grand Stand.) It should be noted that the first game of the 1924 World Series was played on October 4th, not the 5th as noted here. The reason for Bluege's name on the west panel is unknown. Washington defeated the Giants in seven games in the 1924 fall classic to capture its first World Championship in franchise history. The official American League (Johnson) ball is heavily soiled and displays a number of minor abrasions, as one would expect from a game-used example. In Good to Very Good condition. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
