This attractive Philadelphia Athletics medallion was once the bottom component of the club's 1913 World Series press pin, which is one of the great rarities of all press pins. The complete pin was comprised of a brooch, a blue-and-white silk ribbon, and this medallion, which was suspended from the ribbon. The circular medallion (1.25 inches in diameter) features the raised image of the A's "White Elephant" perched upon a crossed bats-and-ball motif in the center. Lettered along the blue enameled perimeter are the words "American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia." Manufactured by "J. E. Caldwell" of Philadelphia, as noted by the engraving on the reverse. Very few complete 1913 Philadelphia Athletics World Series press pins have survived (we have only offered two in the past fifteen years), making this medallion a fine alternative for anyone attempting to compile a complete run of World Series press pins. The medallion displays minor wear along the border and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
