Exceedingly rare Stall & Dean full-size Tris Speaker decal bat. This is one of only few Stall & Dean decal bats we have ever seen, and the first Tris Speaker example. The decal features a bust-length image of Speaker as a member of the Boston Red Sox and his facsimile signature below. The lettering to the left and right of him, respectively, reads "American Biffer." (A biffer refers to someone, usually an athlete, who hits hard.) Based upon the uniform style shown, this bat can be approximately dated to the 1909 to 1911 time period. The center brand is stamped "Stall & Dean/Tris Speaker/17," with the "17" denoting the model number. As is common for nearly all decal bats from this era, large and small, the fragile decal label displays a number of chips and abrasions, and is approximately seventy-five percent complete. The bat (34 inches), which is not cracked, displays moderate-to-heavy use, including numerous ball marks. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
