Original photo of Hall of Fame catcher Roger Bresnahan, taken by noted baseball photographer Paul Thompson. Bresnahan is pictured in uniform, striking a catching pose while wearing his catcher's mask, chest protector, and catcher's mitt. Paul Thompson's proprietary stamp appears on the reverse, as does the handwritten notation "Bresnahan St. Louis Nat. [St. Louis Nat. is crossed out] who will catch for Chicago Nat this year." Bresnahan's contract was purchased from the St. Louis Cardinals by the Chicago Cubs on June 18, 1913, thereby dating the photo. He played with Chicago for three seasons before retiring in 1915. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1945. The photo (4.75 x 6.25 inches) has been neatly trimmed to its current dimensions and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
