This extremely rare advertising pin is one of a series of sixteen pins issued by Blue Label Cigars to honor the 1903 Boston American first-ever World Series winners. Each pin in the set features a player portrait in black and white surrounded by advertising for Blue Label Cigars. Blue Label Cigar Makers pins are one of the most elusive and fascinating of all early baseball advertising pinback sets. To the best of our knowledge, no complete set has ever been assembled in modern times; and the only complete set in existence, which surfaced in the collecting world thirty years ago, was put together in the year of issue. This example features catcher Lou Criger (misspelled "Creiger" on the pin). The pin displays normal oxidation on the reverse (original paper backing no longer present) and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Diameter: 1.5 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
