Team photo capturing the 1903 National League Champion Pittsburgh Pirates posing together in a formal studio setting, including Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Deacon Phillippe, Sam Leever, Ginger Beaumont, and Tommy Leach. This is an outstanding display piece for this important team! The photo, which was a supplement to a newspaper or magazine, commemorates the club's three consecutive pennants in 1901, 1902, and 1903, with those three years listed separately within three illustrated banners along the top border. "Nat'l League Champions" is printed along the base. All of the players are identified in print either below or above their respective images. This is the only example of this photo supplement we have seen, which most likely originates from a Pittsburgh newspaper or magazine (no publisher is listed). The photo (16.25 x 11.5 inches), printed on thin paper stock and dry mounted onto a cardboard backing for ideal display, has been trimmed to its current dimensions and displays a vertical fold and a few small, light stains. Minor restoration is evident to a few border tears and a tiny tear along the fold line. Very Good in its overall appearance. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 20.75 x 16.5 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
