Offered here are two complete sets of the Perez-Steele Great Moments Postcards, each featuring the same forty-two signed cards (total of 84 signed cards in the lot). One of the most beautiful sets ever issued, Perez-Steele's Great Moments set began publication in 1985. The offering was limited to 5,000 numbered sets with periodical updates. The set is fashioned after the colorful T-3 Turkey Red cabinet cards of 1911 and salutes the defining moments in the careers of Baseball Hall of Famers. The complete set is comprised of 108 cards, which were issued in nine twelve-card series. Of the 108 cards in the set, only seventy could have possibly been signed by all of the players depicted on the card (two cards picture more than one player). The other thirty-six cards depict players who died prior to the set's issue. The two sets offered here are numbered, respectively, "1557/5,000" and "2152/5,000." As mentioned earlier, each set features the same forty-two signed cards: Kaline, Ford, Aaron, Musial, T. Williams, Spahn, Koufax, Roberts, Mantle, Banks, McCovey, Mize, Reese, Irvin, Mathews, Slaughter, Gehringer, Snider, Dandridge, Hubbell, Doerr, Dickey, Stargell, B. Robinson, Herman, Aparicio, Gomez, Killebrew, Bench, Berra, Schoendienst, Marichal, Leonard, Kell, Hunter, Boudreau, Mays, Brock, Lemon, B. Williams, Ferrell, and Yastrzemski. All of the signatures have been scripted in blue Sharpie on the front and range from "8" to "10," averaging "9." The cards remain in Near Mint condition overall. Total: two complete sets (108 cards per set, 216 cards total) with 42 signed cards per set (84 signed cards total). Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
