Extremely rare and very likely unique collection of eight blank-back and progressive-proof cards from three classic 1980s Topps sets. Each of the offered cards possesses a subtle difference when compared to the final-issue card, which makes them particularly noteworthy and desirable among advanced collectors. 1-2) 1980 Topps: Blank-back progressive proofs of #424 New York Yankees team picturing Billy Martin as manager instead of Dick Howser as issued. The pair consists of the black-only and the blackless progressive proofs. 3-5) 1981 Topps: Three blank-back proofs with color or photo differences compared to the final issue cards: #254 Ozzie Smith (green team name instead of black as issued), 479 Expos Future Stars with Tim Raines (photos of Ramos and Raines are switched and printed using a reverse negative), and 540 Mike Schmidt (blue frame instead of green as issued). Accompanying each of these cards is a fully printed, front and back, final version for comparison. 6-8) 1981 Topps: Three blank-back progressive proofs of Manny Trillo as a member of the Indians instead of the Expos as issued. Each of the cards presents as Near Mint overall, with a blank reverse as is standard for proof cards. This is an extremely unusual and fascinating group of Topps rarities that would be very much at home in even the most advanced Topps or error-card collections. Total: 8 proofs plus 3 final issue cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
