Extremely attractive pair of high grade 1966 Topps Venezuelan cards, each featuring a notable Hall of Famer and graded by PSA. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 370 cards of Topps’ 1966 baseball set were reprinted on a non-glossy cardboard stock for sale exclusively in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards, but the backs are a darker orange than normal. The condition of these cards is far above average for this unusual issue. They are almost always found with light paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse, since these cards were intended to be glued into an album produced for that purpose. These cards are a rare exception to this rule: the backs are entirely clean and intact. The pair consists of #110 Ernie Banks (NM 7) and 320 Bob Gibson (EX 5). The Banks example is crisp and clean, front and back, with centering only slightly to the right, and strong corners with only light touches of wear at the tips. The Gibson example is also crisp and clean, with centering toward the top, and light corner bends accounting for the assigned grade. This pair is in virtually unheard of high-grade condition, and would be a highlight to any 1966 Topps Venezuelan, type-card, or Hall of Fame collection. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
