Promotional card, issued in 1962 by Gehl's "Gold Mine" brand ice cream, featuring a photo of Yankees star Roger Maris. Fresh off his record-breaking performance in 1961, Maris was an ideal spokesman to promote the Milwaukee-area company's line of products. Maris appeared on six different cards, all of which were issued regionally. The offered examples shows Maris holding his bat, with a facsimile inscription on front reading "To My Gold-Mine Pal/Roger Maris." The card measures 4 x 5 inches and is in Good condition overall, with a few small edge tears, moderate creasing, and paper residue on the reverse from its having been removed from an album. Accompanying the card is a second piece, which resembles a Gehl's card, that was most likely issued either as a premium or promotional piece. The photo (5 x 7 inches; on glossy stock) captures Maris wearing his Yankees jacket and features his facsimile signature. This exact image is used on one of the six Gehl's card, but it lacks the distinctive "To My Gold-Mine Pal" salutation as part of the facsimile signature. Gd, with numerous creases. Total: 2 items (Gehl's card and photo). Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
