1989 Arky Vaughan Original Painting by Michael Schacht

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $593

Original painting rendered in acrylic on paper, titled Arky Vaughan, by Michael Schacht (1936-2001), one of the baseball world's most highly acclaimed and instantly recognized artists. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Created in 1989, this painting was featured in the 1993 National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Yearbook. It was also exhibited for a period of time at Mickey Mantle's Sports Bar & Restaurant in New York City. Our consignor purchased this piece directly from Michael Schacht in 1992. Michael Schacht has done work for both the Baseball Hall of Fame and Upper Deck during his long and distinguished career. Schacht was the featured artist in the 1993-1994 Baseball Hall of Fame Yearbook and his works have also appeared in Sports Illustrated, New York Magazine, Print magazine, Newsday, and The New York Daily News. As a point of reference, the only other Michael Schacht original painting we have handled previously, of Joe DiMaggio, appeared as Lot 1120 in REA's April 2007 auction. That example (which was larger, at 24 x 30 inches, and personally signed by DiMaggio to legendary collector Barry Halper) realized a final sale price of $29,375. The painting (10.5 x 13.25 inches) is in apparent Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 18.5 x 21.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $593
