1961 Roger Maris 60th Home Run Program
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,185
New York Yankees program issued for the September 26, 1961, game against the Baltimore Orioles, scored to record Roger Maris' record-tying 60th home run. The entire game has been scored in blue ink and dutifully records Maris' third-inning home run off of Orioles pitcher Jack Fisher. With that home run Maris become only the second player in history to hit sixty home runs in a single season, a mark that tied him with Babe Ruth. While we have seen ticket stubs from this historic game, the program appears to be far scarcer. This is the first we have ever offered and we cannot recall the last time we saw another example at public auction. All of the pertinent information regarding the game (i.e., date, score, pitchers of record, and note of Maris' accomplishment) is neatly printed in vintage blue ink on the front cover. The eighteen-page program (5.75 x 9.25 inches) displays two very light vertical folds and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,185
