Circa 1940s Set of Five Negro League Pennants
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,185
Collection of five scarce Negro League pennants dating from the 1940s. This collection most likely represents a complete set minus one of 1940s Negro League pennants of this style (missing only the Philadelphia Stars), as over the years we have only seen six different pennants from this series. The teams represented here, along with their respective pennants' lengths, are the New York Cuban Stars (23 inches), N.Y. Black Yankees (26.25 inches; tiny cut at the tip), Newark Eagles (22.75 inches), Homestead Grays (24 inches), and Baltimore Elite Giants (23.5 inches). Their rarity aside, these full-size pennants are distinguished by their impeccable condition. Each pennant retains all of its original paint, displaying little-to-no crazing or cracking as is so commonly found with pennants of this vintage, and the colors remain bold and vibrant. In Excellent to Mint condition overall. Total: 5 pennants. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,185
