1935 "Mickey Cochrane Special League" Ball in Original Box - Extreme Rarity!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $593
Rare "Mickey Cochrane Special League" baseball in its original box, produced by Reach in 1935. This is the very first example of this ball we have ever seen and to find it still housed in its original retail box is nothing short of miraculous. The red-and-blue stitched ball displays a few tiny areas of scattered age toning and a small blemish on the sweet spot, and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. The box displays an image of Cochrane as a member of the Tigers on one panel, while the opposite panel features a short summary of his career through the 1934 season (which allows us to date it precisely to 1935). One of the top flaps on the box is detached, but present, and remnants of the original red seal are still affixed to the base. A few tiny tears and creases are also evident. Without regard to the detached lid the box is in spectacular Excellent condition overall and displays beautifully. This an exceedingly rare pairing and one that would be a welcome addition to any world-class advanced ball, player-endorsement, or general prewar baseball memorabilia collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $593
