Christy Mathewson Memorabilia Collection (3)

This collection commemorates the career of Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson and is comprised of a photograph and two 1939 first-day covers. 1) Original Keystone View Co. news photo picturing Christy Mathewson in 1922. The original paper news caption remains affixed to the reverse and reads in part "Christy Mathewson - Healthy - Celebrates 42nd Birthday At His Old Home - Factoryville, PA." A Keystone View Co. stamp appears on the reverse along with a few modern Christy Mathewson commemorative stamps and decals. The photo (6.5 x 8.5 inches) displays a corner chip in the lower right as well as a few light creases. In Very Good condition. 2) 1939 first-day cover (6.5 x 3.5 inches) featuring a photo of Christy Mathewson on the left side. Postmarked "Cooperstown Jun 12 1939." This is the first example of this extremely attractive Mathewson commemorative envelope we have ever seen. Excellent condition. 3) 1939 first-day airmail cover (6.5 x 3.5 inches) featuring a mounted photo of the bust of Christy Mathewson that resides in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Postmarked "Cooperstown Jun 12 1939." There are a few small pencil notations on the front. Not addressed. Excellent condition. Total: 3 items (photo and 2 first-day covers). Reserve $100.
