Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948
Pair of programs issued, respectively, by the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals for the 1926 World Series. 1) 1926 World Series Program at New York (Yankees). The substantial sixteen-page large-format program (9.5 x 11 inches) features large portrait images of each club's respective manager, Miller Huggins and Rogers Hornsby, on the cover. The interior pages include photos of league and team officials, as well as portraits of twenty-five members of both the Yankees and Cardinals. Neatly scored in pencil for Game 6, a 10-2 Cardinals victory. The program displays a light vertical fold and both covers are detached from the spine but are held together by tape. Good condition overall. 2) 1926 World Series Program at St. Louis (Cardinals). The colorful cover features an illustration of two cardinals perched on a bat while the fourteen interior pages include composite photos of each team. Neatly scored in blue ink for Game 5, a 3-2 Yankees victory. The Cardinals ultimately defeated the Yankees in an exciting seven-game series, highlighted by Grover Alexander's dramatic strikeout of Tony Lazzeri with the bases loaded in the seventh inning of the final and deciding game. The victory marked the first World Championship in Cardinals franchise history. The program (7.75 x 10.5 inches) displays general handling wear, including a few light creases, and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. Total: 2 programs. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
