Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $948
Washington Senators program issued for Game 3 of the 1925 World series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This example has the special provenance of having been Walter Johnson's personal copy that was scored by his wife! It has been consigned directly by a Johnson family member in whose possession it has remained these past many decades. Johnson's wife has scripted her name, as well as the date, in pencil along the top of the front cover: "Hazel Lee Johnson/Oct., 10, 1925. Hazel attended the game that day and she dutifully scored the program in pencil to record Washington's 4-3 victory. The 64-page program (8 x 10.5 inches) features numerous photos of the Senators team members, with each player given a full-page testimonial, as well as additional photos commemorating the club's 1924 World Championship season. The covers, which are attached to each other, have separated from the spine, and the interior scorecard section is also detached from the spine. Two pages display a large tear (paper loss). While technically in Good condition, the program displays at a higher level and presents as Excellent. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $948
