1919 World Series Souvenir Record Book
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,896
This very rare publication (7 x 5.25 inches), titled Souvenir Record Book - World's Championship Series - 1919, features photos and career statistics of the 1919 World Series participants. This elaborate souvenir booklet was available for sale only in Chicago during the World Series. It provides a great deal of information about the players, as well as full-page photographs of some Chicago players (including manager Gleason, Collins, Cicotte, and Weaver) and several group shots of Reds players. Most of the pages are devoted to detailed statistical and biographical information about the players. Armed with this 36-page souvenir booklet, a fan could enjoy the game with greater insight, but at twenty-five cents, apparently few were sold. We have seen only three or four examples of this 1919 World Series souvenir book over the past thirty-five years, which makes it many times rarer than a 1919 World Series program. This is also the finest example we have ever seen. Aside from a few tiny creases along the top of the front cover (barely noticeable) the book remains in outstanding Near Mint condition. All material related to the 1919 "Black Sox" scandal is highly prized by collectors. This is a very substantial 1919 World Series item that ironically (probably due to its great rarity) has been somewhat overlooked by collectors but is truly one of the great prizes related to the legendary 1919 World Series. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,896
