1910 Chicago White Sox Invitation to the Opening of White Sox Park
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,067
Rare invitation to the opening of White Sox Park, on July 1, 1910. The fold-over invitation features the blue-embossed Chicago White Sox logo along the top cover and a beautiful engraving of the new park along the base. The text, lettered in grand calligraphic style, reads "The American League Base Ball Club of Chicago requests the honor of your presence at the Opening of White Sox Park Friday Afternoon, July the first nineteen hundred and ten at three o'clock." While we do not know how many VIPs received this invitation, most of those that did obviously did not save them. This is one of only a few examples of this invitation we have ever seen and only the second we have ever offered (the first was affixed within in a large scrapbook of letters and telegrams saved by a scout for the White Sox). The invitation (7 x 9 inches) is moderately toned and displays areas of light water staining as well as tears along both the horizontal and vertical fold lines. A small piece of vintage clear tape remains affixed to the top of the front cover. In Fair to Good condition overall, but still highly presentable. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
