1889 The Sporting Life Official Score Card

Rare promotional fold-over scorecard issued by The Sporting Life in 1889. The magnificent color graphics on the front cover feature a large generic illustration of a ballplayer at bat, as well as an equestrian scene, rowers, and a track-and-field event. The back cover offers illustrations of a woman fishing, cyclists, and a hunter. The promotional text on the front reads in part "The Best and Only Base Ball Paper Published - Contains All the News from Every League and All Sections - For Sale by All News Dealers." An 1889 copyright is listed along the base of the front cover. The interior lineup sections have not been filled in. The scorecard (4.25 x 7 inches, folded) displays a dark stain (.75 x 1.25 inches) on the front cover that affects both interior scoring sections as well as minor border wear, including a few tiny tears.
