500 Home Run Club Single-Signed Ball Collection - All Graded MINT 9 by PSA/DNA (39)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,370
Offered here is an extraordinary 500 Home Run Club single-signed ball collection that is distinguished by the fact that each ball has been graded MINT 9 by PSA/DNA. The collection features thirty-six single-signed balls, representing eighteen of the twenty-five players who currently have 500 or more home runs, and is missing only Ruth, Ott, Foxx, Sosa, Ramirez, Bonds, and Griffey for completion. The 500 Home Run Club members represented here, with the number of balls for each player noted in parenthesis (if more than one) are Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams (2), Willie Mays (signature deemed "inconclusive" by JSA), Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Ernie Banks, Harmon Killebrew, Willie McCovey, Reggie Jackson, Alex Rodriguez, Mike Schmidt, Gary Sheffield (4), Frank Thomas (6), Eddie Murray (2), Frank Robinson (4), Jim Thome, Mark McGwire, and Rafael Palmeiro (6). Additionally the collection includes three MINT 9 balls signed by two other players who at one point appeared to be on track to break the 500 home-run mark: Vladimir Guerrero (449) and Andruw Jones (434, two balls). Each signature has been scripted in blue ink across the sweet spot of an official Major League (Selig) ball with the exception of Mantle (OAL [Brown] ball), Williams (OAL [Brown] ball), Murray (Rawlings "Official League" ball), and Rodriguez (Rawlings Official MLB with 2008 Yankee Stadium commemorative stampings). Eight of the balls display minor-to-moderate age toning, including the Mantle. All of the Palmeiro signatures display light brushing. The balls are housed in their original sealed cases (with the exception of Mantle; seal broken) and are accompanied by their individual PSA/DNA LOA and/or COA. The compilation of this collection required a great deal of time and expenditure on the part of our consignor. As a point of reference, the current SMR value for this collection, excluding Sheffield, Thome, Thomas, Guerrero, and Jones (no values yet listed for those balls) is $5,080; however, we feel that that number might be low, given the extraordinary quality of each ball and especially given the difficulty and cost of obtaining the most recent members. This is a modern-day collecting classic, a set that has the potential to be completed (with the addition of Ruth, Ott, Foxx, and Griffey), and an extraordinary collection exactly as is. The assembly of this collection in such incredibly high grade and quality will most likely be even more greatly appreciated in the years to come. Total: 39 balls. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $2,370
