Circa 1970 Hall of Fame Ceremonies Signed Ball with 20 Signatures Including Wheat, Terry, Stengel, and Rice
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty members of the Baseball Hall of Fame: Haines (sweet spot), Frick (sweet spot), Terry, Stengel, Coveleski, Combs, Appling, Giles, Boudreau, Cronin, L. Waner, Wheat, Ruffing, Roush, Frick, Feller, Grove, Kuhn, Rice, and Hoyt. Also appearing on the ball are the signatures of "Mrs. Lou Gehirg," "Ossie Bluege," and "Paul S. Kerr" (former president of the Baseball Hall of Fame). The fact that the signatures of both Kerr and Mrs. Lou Gehrig appear on this ball strongly suggest it was signed at a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Our consignor remembers purchasing this ball from a dealer in 1970. If his recollection is correct it probably dates from either 1969 or 1970, as Bowie Kuhn was named Commissioner of Baseball in 1969 (he probably would not have been present at the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies prior to becoming commissioner). Signatures range from "7" to "10," averaging "9." Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $830
