Mickey Mantle Single-Signed 1956 Promotional Ball Issued by Kraft Television Theater

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,067

Offered here is one of the rarest Mickey Mantle signed baseballs in the hobby: a specially produced Official American League (Harridge) ball issued in promotion of Mickey Mantle's appearance on the October 3, 1956, episode of Kraft Television Theater. The ball features a special stamping on the side panel that reads "Look for me on/Kraft T. V. Theatre Oct. 3/Mickey Mantle." Mantle has signed the ball in blue ink (grading "10" ) directly above that special stamping. Research indicates that the episode referenced here aired on October 3, 1956, and was titled "The Life of Mickey Mantle." Mantle of course, was baseball's biggest star at the time, having just won baseball's coveted Triple Crown. The air date for the program, not coincidentally, was also the same day as the first game of the 1956 World Series between the Yankees and Dodgers. We have never seen another example of this special promotional ball, let alone one signed by Mantle, making it a truly unique Mickey Mantle autographed item. It should be noted the Mantle signature on the ball is not a vintage example from 1956, but a later version, indicating that Mantle probably signed it after his playing career. That fact notwithstanding, this remains an exceedingly rare Mantle single-signed ball that is further distinguished by its remarkable Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
