1954 New York Giants World Champions Team-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $711
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-eight members of the World Champion New York Giants: Mays, Irvin, Wilhelm, Katt (sweet spot), Westrum, Hofman, Lockman, Spencer, Gardner, Hearn, Dark, Grissom, Amalfitano, Giel, Maglie, Taylor, Konikowski, Worthington, Rhodes, Gomez, Antonelli, Liddle, Mueller, McCall, Castleman, Williams, Thompson, and one other (illegible). The black-ink Leo Durocher signature on the sweet spot is a stamped facsimile (common on Giants team balls from this era). Signatures range from "5" to "9," averaging "7/8." The ball displays only the the slightest trace of soiling and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. The Giants swept the heavily favored Cleveland Indians in the 1954 World Series to capture their first World Championship since 1933. Although Dusty Rhodes was the hitting star for the Giants, it was Willie Mays' miraculous catch of a ball off the bat of Vic Wertz in Game One that remains the defining moment of the Series. This is an outstanding New York Giants team ball commemorating the club's final World Championship in New York. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $711
