1955 Pittsburgh Pirates Team-Signed Ball with Clemente - Rookie Season!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,896
Outstanding 1955 Pirates team ball dating from Clemente's rookie season. The Official National League (Giles) ball has been signed in blue ink by the following twenty-four members of the 1955 Pittsburgh Pirates: Clemente, Haney (Mgr., sweet spot), Fitzpatrick (coach, sweet spot), Koback, Surkront, Groat, Abwell, Gene Freese, Wade, Shepard, Thomas, Long, Saffell, Montemayor, Cole, Mejias, Kline, George Freese, Face, Friend (green ink), Ward, Narron (coach), Littlefield, and one other (illegible). One of the interesting aspects of this ball is the fact that Clemente has scripted his name in the ideal standard fashion (first and last name on the same plane) rather than placing his first name above his last (the manner in which he normally signed throughout his career following his rookie season). Signatures are fairly uniform in grade, averaging "7." Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,896
